Towamensing hears residents’ concerns

Towamensing Township supervisors heard from several residents regarding issues during their July meeting.

The Aquino family inquired about a violation of an ordinance regarding their chicken coops. They were advised to go to the zoning board.

Susan Debski, who lives on Lonesome Lane, brought concerns about her driveway constantly flooding with silt which has eroded the roads and her pipe because of poor drainage.

The discussion between Debski and board president Seifert got heated for a moment as Seifert was explaining the attempt to have a drainage easement, which almost got done. Because a neighbor disapproved, the project was not completed. After a bit of back-and-forth, Debski said she could talk to her neighbor and get approval so they can move forward with this project.

A reverse subdivision for Bruce and Kristine George on East Stagecoach Road was given conditional approval.

In old business, recreation field signs were approved to include rules such as no littering or fires. Bikes, mini-bikes, ATVs, E bikes are not permitted. The complete ordinance, 2014-1, can be found on the Towamensing Township’s website.

The burn ban was rescinded.

Conditional approval for release of funds for Jerusalem UCC was passed. An “As built” drawing by an engineer is needed as the light on the side of the building is not what is on the plan and a proposed tree planting was shifted as well as a concrete sidewalk being paved.

The historical commission reported a lot of volunteers for the renovation of the one-room schoolhouse. They will be moving forward with wrapping the building in plastic by September so it is ready for winter. Shutters will also be put on.

The next meeting of the board of supervisors is Aug. 3.
