Storms dump rain, knock down trees

Strong storms that whipped through the area on Sunday dumped several inches of rain, while knocking down trees with wind gusts along the way.
Palmerton reported 4.18 inches of rain, Lake Harmony 3.04, Lehighton 2.83, and Jim Thorpe and Weatherly just under 1.5.
A large tree fell at a home along Edgemont Avenue in Palmerton.
No one was injured after the tree fell near a house at 401 Circle Drive.
Palmerton Fire Department Captain Frank Haas said the incident occurred at 3:47 p.m.
“I believe it was a big walnut tree that fell on the corner near the house, took the edging of the roof, no structural damage to the house itself,” Haas said. “It ripped out one wire for an outside receptacle and landed on a propane tank; it did a little bit of damage to the tank, but wasn’t a big issue.”
However, for safety concerns, Haas said they wanted someone there to check on the status of the tank and their ability to make sure that everything was safe so it wouldn’t puncture or leak.
Additionally, he said they had a tree company come in and trim up the tree to get it off the tank, and had the tank owner (since it was a rented tank) come and secure and check on their tank as well.
Another tree reportedly fell on a home in Summit Hill.
