Six Palmerton students named ‘Guiding Stars’

The Concourse Club of Palmerton named its 2022-2023 Guiding Stars of Palmerton Area High School a recent meeting of the Concourse Club at St. John’s Church in Palmerton.

Each senior finished in the top 25 percent of academic ranking, demonstrated leadership qualities in extracurricular school activities and participated in community programs and events.

They were awarded a certificate, a check, and an engraved star charm.

Emily Elizabeth Bollinger: Emily is the daughter of Stephanie and Brian Bollinger. Her hobbies are basketball and field hockey. School activities include basketball, field hockey, National Honor Society, Leo Club, Student Council, Environmental Club, FBLA, and Social Media Club. She volunteers at local events and at the S.S. Palmer Elementary School, and works at the Palmerton Summer Recreation Program. She plans on attending King’s College and is enrolled in the accelerated 3+2 Physician Assistant Program. She plans to pursue a medical career as a surgical orthopedic physician assistant.

Julia Finley: Julia is the daughter of Tammy and Christopher Finley. She has one sister, Madison. Julia’s hobbies are painting, drawing, snowboarding, hiking, stargazing, reading, and gardening. School activities include National Honor Society, varsity soccer, Art Club, track and field, Aevidum, Yearbook Club, and Student Council. Julia is a Senior Girl Scout member and blood donor at Keystone Blood Center. Julia plans to attend Elizabethtown College and is enrolled in the social welfare program. She aspires to become a case manager in a hospital setting with a master’s degree in social work.

Emma Mae Martinez: Emma is the daughter of Melissa and Michael Martinez. Her siblings are Madison and Jacob. Emma’s hobbies are running, snowboarding, and walking her dog with her family. School activities include track and field, soccer, National Honor Society, FBLA, Student Council, Buddies Club, Leo Club, Environmental Club, and International Travelers Club. Her community activities include volunteer work for National Honor Society and Leo Club and Special Olympics. She is also a youth soccer referee. Emma’s educational plan is to attend Pepperdine University to study broadcast journalism striving to become a news anchor on a major news network.

Elizabeth Joyce Morgan: Beth is the daughter of Amy and Brian Morgan. She has two sisters, Cate and Maggie. Beth’s hobbies are playing soccer and basketball, as well as spending time with her family and friends. School activities include varsity soccer, varsity basketball, National Honor Society, Aevidum, and FBLA. Beth is the president of SADD and Student Council. Beth participates in community activities as a representative of National Honor Society such as the Turkey Trot, the fire company filling fundraiser, and a tutoring program at S.S. Palmer Elementary School. Her educational plan is to attend Rider University majoring in health sciences. Beth’s goal is to be a pediatric physician assistant.

Natalie Rose Mosier: Natalie is the daughter of Joyce Borger and Scott Mosier. Her hobbies include raising cattle, running, and volunteering. Natalie is a member of the National Honor Society and cross-country team. Through her role as president of Carbon County’s 4-H Livestock Club, she has demonstrated leadership qualities and has earned several champion awards. Girl Scouting has provided many volunteer opportunities, as well. Natalie plans to attend Penn State University for animal science to become a livestock ruminant nutritionist with a supplement and feed business to provide support for cattle farms.

Hannah Elizabeth Cheng Serfass: Hannah is the daughter of Jenny and Steve Serfass. She has one brother, Ben. Her hobbies are singing, acting, going on walks, working out, spending time with friends, and collecting shoes. School activities include soccer, Drama Club, Chorus, National Honor Society, Student Council, Leo Club, International Travelers Club, and Social Media Club. Hannah serves as a class officer as well. Hannah volunteers in the community through her National Honor Society membership. Her educational plan is to attend a four-year university to major in psychology of business. Her goal is to pursue an acting career in movies or on Broadway.
