Man charged after Ross standoff
A Saylorsburg man has been charged with assault following a standoff Tuesday afternoon in Ross Township in which he barricaded himself inside a home with a gun.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Nicolas De La Iglesia of the Pennsylvania State Police Lehighton barracks in the case against Jason Cascioli:
At 12:50 p.m., state police at Lehighton received a complaint from a 12-year-old girl who said her parents were involved in a domestic dispute at their residence in the 1100 block of Meixsell Valley Road. The incident ended early in the evening. The road was closed to traffic during this time.
The people involved in the altercation were inside the residence but refused to exit.
The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team responded and after several hours of negotiation, both voluntarily exited the home.
The juvenile said she witnessed her father, Cascioli, 51, assault her mother with several punches.
The juvenile said her grandmother attempted to intercede and stop the assault, but Cascioli struck her in the face with several punches as well.
The juvenile then fled the scene and went to a neighbor’s residence to call for help.
Troopers said they responded to the bi-level type single-family residence for six prior domestic incidents involving Cascioli and the girl’s mother. They included a Jan. 4, 2019, incident in which Cascioli girl’s grandmother had left the residence, possibly to locate the girl who fled the incident.
The grandmother returned to the residence and provided statements to police.
Cascioli faces charges of simple assault and harassment.
Cascioli was taken to the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing July 6.
