Legion bingo

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will hold its open-to-community Bingo Night Monday, with card sales beginning at 6:30 and playing at 7 p.m.

Polk meeting

The Polk Township board of supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. Monday for a general meeting at the township building.

Summer lunches

The PVEN free summer lunches, available for children ages 18 and under, at the Chestnuthill Park, Pavilion 1, Monday through Friday, will continue through Aug. 18.

Lunches are available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and must be eaten on site.

PVSD school board

The next Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education is at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 29.

West End Republicans

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the West End Republican Club is at 7 p.m. June 27 at Cherry’s Family Restaurant.

Those planning to have dinner there are asked to come an hour earlier.

Garden needs

The Garden of Giving, located off Route 715 in McMichaels (Saylorsburg mailing address) opened last week. Help is needed in the garden from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Groups such as employee day volunteers, youth groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups and adults who would enjoy helping their neighbors by growing healthy vegetables are welcome. Groups are asked to call in advance for appointments. Sunday hours can be arranged.

Raised beds throughout the garden make gardening easy for everyone. No bending or kneeling is necessary when tending the vegetables.

The office is located in the ReMax building on Route 115 in Effort, and is open part time by appointment only.

Effort Pantry open

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort United Methodist Church will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

PVEN helping students

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network has announced the start of its Back to School Extravaganza for students who need help preparing for the upcoming school year.

Needed are: backpacks, school supplies, sneakers (sizes for boys, girls, men and women), socks, for the same; underwear (hipsters for girls and women) and boxer briefs for boys and men; personal care items such as deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.

Donations can be left on the porch of the Clothing Closet any time at 2338 Route 209, Sciota.

Anyone wanting to sign up to receive school supplies can call the PVEN office at 570-992-3136.

During this past May, the PVEN served over 500 individuals through its Food Pantry, Clothing Closet, Diaper Pantry and Menstrual Hygiene Pantry components.

Meeting canceled

The first meeting for July at Chestnuthill Township is canceled because it falls on July 4.

Free movie night

Middlecreek Christian will host a free monthly movie night at 5 p.m. July 9.

Pizza, refreshments, sides, salad, and desserts will also be provided. Attendees will be watching “God’s Not Dead.” Everyone is welcome.

July VBS

• Cornerstone Community Church, Kresgeville, is hosting its Vacation Bible School from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., July 9 through July 13, with the closing program set for 7 p.m. July 14. It is for children age 4 to beginning Grade 6 in the fall.

The theme is Keepers of the Kingdom.
