Bowmanstown group to apply for park grant

Bowmanstown Borough Council on Tuesday granted permission to Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected to apply for a grant for a proposed multiuse park along Railroad Street near the post office.

Rodney Reeser, vice president of Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected, once again made his pitch to use the borough’s letterhead to get a Recreation and Parks Technical Assistance Program grant to get a site plan to form a park.

“This is just going for the site plan,” Reeser said. “All we need is your letterhead to get a grant, so we can actually get you something.”

Before council granted its consent, Councilman William Ravert asked Reeser if BARC would be willing to sign an agreement that they would maintain that property.

“I’m just looking out to cover the borough’s back,” Ravert said.

However, Mayor Zach Snyder said he doesn’t believe they could enforce that even if they wanted to.

Councilman Rob Moyer said he was in favor of BARC pursuing it.

Reeser said the group can present a professional site plan to council.

Reeser said one of the reasons why BARC likes the Railroad Street site is because the borough is a D&L trail town.
