Anticipating the approval of a new ordinance establishing parking rules on Valley Drive, the Schuylkill Township supervisors have approved a contract to paint lines on all township roads.
Monday night, the supervisors approved a $14,256 contract with DeAngelo Contracting Services, Hazleton, to paint lines on the roads between the Tamaqua borough line and the Middleport borough line.
The supervisors discussed a language revision with the township’s solicitor, Joseph Baranko, to the Valley Street ordinance.
Parking will be permitted on both sides of the 200 block of Valley Street behind a white line that will be painted. Any vehicle parked over the white line will be subject to ticketing and towing.
Mark Buccieri, the township’s road foreman, said the paving of Sunny Drive from South Main Street to Back Street will begin in about a month.
The state Department of Transportation notified the supervisors by letter of the replacement of a bridge that spans Locust Lake in nearby Ryan Township.
“The letter didn’t say when they would replace the bridge,” said Supervisor Gary Feathers.
Supervisor Charles Fayash said the bridge is a single-lane structure.
“I hope they widen it,” Fayash said.
Feathers said property tax bills will be going out soon. Once they go out, arrangements will be made for someone to be in the township office to collect them.
Feathers said 17 Hometown Hero flags will be put up in the township. They have been ordered, and have a four-week lead time. Those who bought flags have been sent proofs of the flag’s pictures. Feathers said the next set of flags will cost more.
A couple of things were tabled. A tree removal on Seneca Street is on hold until Buccieri gets more price quotes, and a franchise agreement with cable provider Comcast is on hold until the firm includes in their proposal service to residents of Tuscarora Mountain.
