Summer lunches

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network’s free summer lunches are available for children ages 18 and under as beginning this past Monday and through Aug. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Chestnuthill Park, Pavilion 1, on Route 715, Brodheadsville.

Anyone with questions can call the PVEN office at 570-992-3136 and ask for Colleen.

TOPS meeting

The Kresgeville TOPS meetings at Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church continue at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday.

Registration open

Our Lady Queen of Peace has announced that registration is open for CCD now. It will begin at 9:10 a.m. Sept. 17.

A registration from is available on the Religious Education door, or at the church office. Return payment and registration at the church office or during collection at Mass, marked: Religious Education.

New Bible study

McMichaels UMC has announced a new Bible study class beginning tomorrow, and every Thursday thereafter for some time. The study will be from 7 to 8 p.m. via Zoom.

Anyone interested is asked to call Pastor Ed at 610-597-1030 and provide him with one’s email address in order to join in.

PV Board meeting

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

On Monday, a district planning day will be held beginning at 7 p.m.

Pastor retiring

St. Matthew’s UCC has shared that Pastor Suzanne is retiring. She and Pastor Scott will be leaving in September to take care of their family.

New issue out

The June/July 2023 issue of Pocono Living Magazine has just been released.

The publications can be found at many locations throughout the Pocono Mountains region and are also available by subscription.

WPWC lunch

The Western Pocono Women’s Club is holding its Out to Lunch gathering at Mountain View Winery in Neola Thursday.

Members are reminded to have contacted V. Connor for exact location and reservation.

Primetimers movie

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church Primetimers are having a movie day at noon. Those attending are reminded to bring a dish to share and to bring a friend.

Communion held

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will hold a Communion service at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Donation breakfast

McMichaels UMC will host a donation-only breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. this Saturday.

Eat in or take out. A complete breakfast is served including beverages: coffee, tea, orange juice, milk.

Everyone is invited to attend. The church now has a band that plays during breakfast.

Flea market

Middlecreek Christian Church, Kresgeville, is hosting an outdoor flea market Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be a variety of vendors and the church will be selling cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sauerkraut, and baked goods.

All donations will go to the church’s benevolence fund to help meet needs in the community.

Pantry open

Effort UMC’s food pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Paint party event

The Western Pocono Community Library is hosting its next Paint Party fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Special service

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will welcome Freely Given Gospel group, a favorite trio, as the group conducts the Sunday 10 a.m. worship service with praise and witness.

The church will bid Godspeed to the Rev. Zabdiel Khan as he prepares to leave for his new pastoral appointment.

Outdoor worship

On Sunday, Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will hold an outdoor worship in Adam’s Faith Garden at 10:30 a.m. following the 8:30 a.m. service.

Next Sunday, the summer schedule begins, with church at 9:30 a.m. And this service is to include Holy Baptism and Holy Communion with honoring fathers.

Rosary bonfire

It’s a family Rosary bonfire at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday. Join fellow parishioners at the fire pit by the Pavilion to pray the Rosary and enjoy some s’mores. Also, bring a chair or blanket to sit on, and if it rains, folks will gather under the Pavilion.

Blood drives held

Miller-Keystone blood drives are held on the second and fourth Monday in the Western Pocono Community Library track area.

Appointments must be made directly with Miller-Keystone at www.giveapint.org.

Effort Women

The next meeting of the Effort Women’s group will be 7 p.m. Monday in Wesley Hall.

Tuesday Sr. event

A free event for older adults, their families and caregivers is being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the Dale And Frances Hughes Cancer Center at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono, 181 E. Brown St., East Stroudsburg.

The conference will include presentations and discussions by professionals and experts on critical elder abuse topics facing older adults in Monroe County.

Local vendors and representatives will be on hand to share their information, according to the latest issue of Monroe County Seniors’ Express Times.

Eldred planners

The Eldred Township Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month at the municipal building on Kunkletown Road.

Confirm said meeting by calling the township office.

In addition, the Parks & Rec Committee is slated to meet at that time as well. It is an advisory committee to the board of supervisors.

Nymph warning

From the Pa Tick Research Lab’s East Stroudsburg University site comes word about the nymph of blacklegged deer ticks. They are as small as poppy seeds and the nymph season is here.

These little creatures “are capable of transmitting Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses such as Anaplasmosis, Babesiosis, and Powassan virus.”

No church parking

There is no parking at Effort UMC on June 15. The paving project will begin that day.

ID theft reminder

On June 15, at the Ross Township Municipal Building on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg, state Rep. Jack Rader is hosting a seminar on learning how to protect yourself from identity theft and other scams from 5 to 7 p.m.

Breakfasts resume

EAA Chapter 839 is again inviting the public to the airport grounds at 222 Hickory Lane, Saylorsburg, off Route 209, on June 18 to enjoy a Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast.

The Experimental Aircraft Association sponsors the monthly breakfast under its large canopy tent while the pilot members offer free Young Eagle rides to children ages 8-17. Served 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the breakfast is an All-You-Can-Eat affair consisting of pancakes, sausages, orange juice and coffee. A DJ is on hand to spin favorites from the 60s to today.

With winds favorable, around 1 p.m. parachutists jump onto the runway from a circling plane over the field.

In June, the Jeep Enthusiasts of Eastern PA rumble in with their prized vehicles.

Triple sale ahead

The Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a yard sale/craft fair/vendor sale and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine, on June 24, at the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company complex in Kresgeville.

Garden Tour

The Monroe County Garden Club will present its popular Garden Tour of local gardens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., June 24.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Stonewall Garden Center, Route 447 Canadensis; Ross & Ross Nursery, 5801 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco; and The Potting Shed, 931 Ann St., Stroudsburg.

Tickets may be also purchased the day of the tour at Bryant Park, Stroudsburg.
