Coin purchase brings $50,000 loss for elderly Monroe woman

State police at the Stroudsburg barracks said a 90-year-old woman from Stroudsburg is the apparent victim of a theft incident involving a family member.

The estimated loss is $50,000.

Police said they were called at 7:24 a.m. Saturday to a residence on Bartonsville Woods Road in Jackson Township where the victim said she and the suspect engaged in a financial transaction for a particular item - a solid gold French franc - that was not as described when delivered.

Police said the victim told them the item she received does not hold the same value of $50,000 that was described to her in the original agreed-upon transaction.
