Sisters craft wreath in Tamaqua Legion to honors veterans

In time for Memorial Day, Ann McAllister Derr, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 173 in Tamaqua, found a fitting way to honor those who made sacrifices for the country.

She asked her sister, Michele Oltramonto Houston, of the Philadelphia area, to make a patriotic wreath to hang in the C.H. Berry American Legion Post Home.

“It’s just another example of how veteran families honor and pay tribute to other veterans and our military,” said Mike Polyak, the Legion’s judge advocate.

Derr is married to Legionnaire and Army veteran Robert Derr Jr. Her father-in-law, Robert Derr Sr. is also an Army veteran, and her nephew, Dillon Neiman, served with and retired from the U.S. Marine Corps.
