N. Lehigh graduates told ‘the sky has no limit’

They dealt with all kind of challenges, but demonstrated the necessary grit and tenacity to overcome every obstacle placed in front of them.

Those were among the words of wisdom shared with the 112 members of the Northern Lehigh High School Class of 2023.

High school Acting Principal John Rushefski greeted family members during commencement exercises Friday evening at Bulldog Community Stadium.

The ceremony was postponed 30 minutes because of stormy weather, but was able to go off without any interruptions even as a light rain fell.

Class of 2023 Vice President Aicha Salih told her fellow graduates to always stay true to themselves.

“I’m looking forward to see where life takes each and every one of us,” Salih said.

As Salih continued her impassioned speech, tears could be seen running down her cheeks.

She added, “The sky is your limit, and the sky has no limit.”

Class of 2023 Co-Valedictorian Danielle Dougherty thanked her family, friends, teachers, club advisers and class advisers for their unwavering support.

Dougherty said the fact her classmates were graduating was a big milestone.

However, Dougherty suggested that their best moments are likely ahead of them.

Class of 2023 Co-Valedictorian Delia Quier told her classmates that the COVID-19 pandemic is something they will surely never forget.

“This pandemic altered my life and everyone else’s in every imaginable way,” Quier said. “I hope we never have to experience anything like that again.“

Quier said that it is because of her love for science that she has chosen to enter the medical field.

Student Council President Madelynn Mack recognized the Slatington High School Class of 1973 attendees on the 50th year of their graduation. High school Assistant Principal Michael Strohl recognized several retirees with many years of experience in the district. Superintendent Dr. Matthew J. Link presented the graduation class.

School board President Mathias Green presented the diplomas to the graduates.
