The American Legion Post 314 of Lehighton will conduct its second annual Spring Basket Social from 4 to 9 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion.
Susan Steager, steward, said they have 175 baskets and 40 gift cards. She added a person must be 21 to win a basket with alcohol in it.
Many local businesses have donated toward the cause.
“We’d like to thank everybody that participated last year and this year,” Steager said. “Because of the social last year, we were able to get a new air-conditioning system, upstairs and downstairs, we had a new floor put in; all the moneys from this fundraiser go into our building fund to update everything that we have.”
Steager said the items available include a 50-inch TV, set of luggage, patio set, 6-person tent, fire pit, set of rocking chairs, 12-foot pool, and many more large items.
“Come support your local legion. We have hundreds of items to choose from,” she said. “We just have so many different large items this year.”
Steager said there will be food, beverages and a bake sale.
Large item tickets cost $1 each; $5 a card and 5 cards for $20. Large ticket items are sold separately.
Steager said the drawing will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday when the last ticket is dropped.
“It’s important to keep the Legion up and running. This is the place all the veterans can still come,” he said. “This is what’s keeping us going.”
