State police at the Frackville barracks said two homemade pipe bombs were found in an apartment in Girardville on Wednesday.

Police were called at 3:25 p.m. to 30 West Main St. in the borough for a report of a possible explosive device found in the ceiling of a vacant apartment.

Police said the investigation determined the device was a homemade pipe bomb that had signs of electrical detonation.

Personnel from the state police Hazardous Device and Explosive Section responded to the scene and neutralized the device. Police said while clearing the apartment a second device that was found in the ceiling was also neutralized.
