Brothers waive charges in Lansford shooting

Two brothers arrested in a mid-May shooting outside an East Water Street home in Lansford waived charges against them to Carbon County Court of Common Pleas.

Elijah X. Lopez, 20, and Reality Donte Lopez, 22, both of East Front Street, appeared before Magisterial District Judge Casimir Kosciolek for a preliminary hearing Wednesday afternoon.

Both men, who remain in the Carbon County prison without bail, are charged with aggravated assault, criminal conspiracy, terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

A formal arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 21, and they agreed to plead guilty to some of the charges - namely terroristic threats and reckless endangerment. Reality Lopez is also expected to plead guilty to simple assault.

The charges stem from an incident on the evening of May 17, in which the men went to the victim’s home around 6:30 p.m.

The victim heard arguing, came outside and Reality Lopez pointed a gun at her, court papers said.

The victim fled into the home, and gunshots rang out. Police collected eight, empty 9 mm Luger shell casings from the scene.

Both men ran off toward the Family Dollar, and police found two men fitting the description given by the victim.

They fled from police, and then Elijah Lopez was quickly taken into custody. Reality Lopez, who eluded officers, turned himself in the next day.

The gun believed to be used in the shooting was recovered by police.
