Details released on double-fatal crash in Towamensing

A two-vehicle crash at 2:39 p.m. Sunday in Carbon County resulted in the death of two people.

State police at Lehighton said Michael E. Brunell, 42, of Lower Towamensing Township and Amy B. Hollenbach, 44, of Palmerton died in the crash at the intersection of Forest Inn and Hill roads in Towamensing Township.

They said a vehicle failed to maintain its southbound lane of travel and struck the motorcycle in the northbound lane. Police said both occupants of the cycle were thrown onto the eastern shoulder of the road.

Police said the driver of the motorcycle, Brunell, was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger was treated by emergency medical services personnel and transported to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, where she died.
