Driver taken to hospital after East Penn rollover

One person was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when involved in a crash in East Penn township. The accident occurred around 1:20 p.m. along Route 895.

It appeared the driver lost control entering the north berm, rolling the vehicle onto its roof. Members of the East Penn and Mahoning Valley fire companies extricated the driver from the wreckage.

The victim was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics before being transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital trauma center in Allentown.

An air medical transport helicopter was requested to the scene but declined due to weather. Area fire police maintained traffic control at the scene shutting down the roadway between Church Hill and Lauchnor roads.

State police at Lehighton are investigating the incident.
