Tamaqua sets parade for Memorial Day

Tamaqua borough officials are hoping to see a good turnout at the annual Memorial Day Parade.

“May 29 is our Memorial Day parade and we are looking forward to that. It should be another good year for it,” Mayor Nathan Gerace reminded attendees of this week’s Tamaqua Borough Council meeting.

The parade, which is organized by the CH Berry Post 173 of the American Legion, will begin at 10 a.m. from the 800-block of East Broad Street and end at West Broad and Lehigh streets.

“It would be nice if the Memorial Day Parade was attended more than our Halloween Parade,” council President Brian Connely said. “We like to have all the crowds for all the events but Memorial Day is obviously special and I’d like to see everybody get out and support the town’s veterans and everybody serving.”

In an unrelated matter, council approved handicapped parking applications for 211 Brown St.; 306 E. Broad St.; 230 Mauch Chunk St., and 547 East Union St.

Members also approved the purchase of new “No Parking” signs for street sweeping operations.
