Towamensing to look at bikes on soccer field

Towamensing Township board of supervisors will be discussing the use of motorized bikes on the soccer field.

Allison Chase, president of the soccer club, asked about the bikes and thanked the township for filling holes in the parking lot.

The item will be put on the agenda for next month.

On a personal note, Chase asked for assistance with an issue with her neighbor putting rocks in the street and “forbidding” anyone to walk there. Township personnel will go out to view the road to identify what is a “right of way” there.

Anthracite Auto Exchange Inc. was awarded a 3-year contract for recycling center hauling. New business included a motion to approve disposing of old tax bills.

The Historical Commission Report included that the preservation and restoration of the school house has begun. The school house is being prepared for siding and someone is taking care of the grass. A motion passed to rescind the timeline for the project as progress has begun.

Members are needed for the commission which meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.

The fire company reported nine calls in April. On May 22 they will be attending a PPL safety class.

The fire police will assist Palmerton for the May 29 Memorial Day parade.

An agenda item was added to discuss donating money to the fire company for a tanker or bathroom upgrade. The motion passed for $100,000 of APR funds to be used by the end of the year.

The next regular meeting of the board of supervisors is at 7 p.m. June 1.
