Memorial Day Parade

American Legion C.H. Berry Post 0173 will host the annual Memorial Day Parade at 10 a.m. on May 29.

Staging will begin at 9 a.m. by the Old Maff Motor’s building on East Broad Street. The legion Honor Guard will fire a volley over the Tamaqua War Memorial with Taps being played by the Tamaqua Band.

Grand Marshal is Jon Zizelmann, a life member of the American Legion who honorably served during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. Poppy Queen is Miss Layluh Creitz, a Jr. member of the A.L.A.

A Memorial service will follow at the Odd Fellows Cemetery and food and refreshments will be service at the Legion and is open to the public.

Tamaqua Senior Citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met May 11 with 21 members in attendance.

President Mary Bittle opened the meeting with the reading “A Kind Word or Smile.”

Mary Ann Laughlin and Joann Camerini were added to the sick list.

Eileen Keich attended as a guest. The group welcomed back Barbara Gallagher. The meeting was closed and bingo and cards followed.

Free Concert

The Cressona Band will present a free concert at 7 p.m. on May 31 at the Tamaqua Train Station.

Calvary Lewistown

The Rev. Nathan Stein, Myerstown will offer the message at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Calvary Evangelical Church, Lewistown Valley. Special music will be presented by April Gerber. Sunday school is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and evening praise service at 6:30 p.m. Prayer and share at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Poppy Sale

The Andreas VFW Post 5069 will be at the Hometown Market from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on May 24 selling poppies.
