Carbon County school board races

Several candidates secured nominations in Carbon County school board races.

Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe had only one candidate, Michele Mazzola on both the Republican and Democratic tickets. There were five seats open on the board. Mazzola received 698 votes on the Democratic side and 776 votes on the Republican ticket.

Palmerton

Palmerton school board had five seats up for grabs on four-year terms. Candidates included Sherry A. Cseh Haas, Mary Jo King, Brandon Mazepa and Kris Schaible, who all cross-filed.

Mazepa led the votes on the Democratic ticket with 465; followed by King, 459; Haas, 444; and Schaible, 387.

On the Republican ticket, King led with 615 votes; followed by Haas, 551; Mazepa, 529; and Schaible, 491.

Panther Valley

Panther Valley School Board had five four-year seats up for grabs. Candidates included Daniel Matika, Marco D’Acona, Anthony DeMarco, Michael Alabovitz and Pat Leonzi. All cross-filed.

Panther Valley is comprised of Summit Hill, Nesquehoning and Lansford in Carbon County, as well as Coaldale in Schuylkill. The results are both counties combined.

On the Democratic ticket, Leonzi led with 831 votes; Matika, 817; DeMarco, 743; Alabovitz, 704; and D’Ancona, 570.

On the Republican ticket, Matika led with 742 votes; DeMarco, 670; Leonzi, 654; Alabovitz, 611; and D’Ancona, 508.

All results are unofficial until certified by their respective county election boards.

Weatherly

Weatherly School Board only had one candidate filed for five four-year seats. April Walters is cross-filed. She received 172 votes on the Democratic ticket and 455 on the Republican ticket. There were also 298 write-in votes on the Republican ticket.
