Carbon County candidates for May 16 primary

Candidates listed on the ballot for the May 16 primary:

Carbon County offices

Commissioner: Wayne Nothstein, longtime commissioner, and Michael J. Sofranko are running on the Republican ticket for two seats. Rocky Ahner, incumbent, and Jeff Schnaiter are running on the Democrat ticket for two seats.

Sheriff: Richard Steven Branche Sr., Daniel J. McLean Jr. and Daniel G. Zeigler are vying for one spot on the Republican ticket. There are no candidates on the Democratic ballot. Zeigler is the current sheriff, appointed to fill the unexpired term of Tony Harvilla when he retired.

Coroner: Robert W. Miller Jr. is the sole candidate in the primary for Carbon County coroner. He is running on the Democrat ballot.

Controller: Sam Lux is on the Democratic ballot, while Kayla Herman is running on the Republican ticket. Controller Mark Sverchek is retiring.

Prothonotary: Incumbent Kayla Semmel is on the Republican ballot, with no one listed on the Democratic ballot.

Recorder of Deeds: Incumbent Donna Gentile is running on the Republican ticket. No one is listed on the Democratic ballot.

Magisterial District Judge

District Court 56-3-01: Includes Jim Thorpe Borough, Lehighton Borough, Weissport Borough, Mahoning Township (Voting District Packerton and Jamestown) and Penn Forest Township: Incumbent Eric M. Schrantz is cross-filed on both tickets.

District Court #56-3-02: Covers Palmerton, Parryville Borough, Bowmanstown Borough, Lower Towamensing Township, Towamensing Township, Franklin Township. Incumbent William J. Kissner is cross-filed on both ballots.

District Court 56-3-03: includes Lansford Borough, Nesquehoning Borough, Summit Hill Borough, East Penn Township, Mahoning Township (Voting Districts Mahoning and New Mahoning). Beth A. Dodson, Eric J. Filer, Kirk D. Henritzy, Billy O’Gurek, Kelly Sheridan, Frank A. Shubeck and Sean T. Smith are on the ballot for the seat vacated with the retirement of Casimir T. Kosciolek. They are all cross filed and will be running for one seat.

School board

Jim Thorpe School Director (4-year): Michele Mazzola is the sole candidate on the Republican ballot for five positions. There are no candidates on the Democratic ballot.

Lehighton School Director (2-year): Richard R. Beltz and Walter C. Zlomsowitch are vying for one spot on the Republican ticket. Beltz is cross-filed on the Democratic ballot.

Lehighton School Director (4-year): Jeremy Todd Glaush, Sean D. Gleaves, Zac Hunter, Heather Neff, and April F. Walker are cross-filed on both tickets for five 4-year seats. Walter C. Zlomsowitch will be running solely on the Republican ticket.

Palmerton School Director (4-year): Sherry A. Cseh Haas, Mary Jo King, Brandon Mazepa and Kris Schaible are all cross-filed on both tickets and all will be running for five 4-year seats.

Panther Valley School Director (4-Year): Michael Alabovitz, Marco R. D’Ancona, Anthony DeMarco, Pat Leonzi and Daniel V. Matika are cross-filed for five seats.

Weatherly (4-year): April Walters is the lone candidate on the ballot for five seats. She is cross-filed.

Borough Council

Beaver Meadows (4-year): William M. Curilla Jr. is on the Republican ballot. Four 4-year seats are open. No one is listed on the Democratic ballot.

Bowmanstown Council (4-Year): Pamela J. Leiby and Norman A. Engle Jr. are the only candidates on Republican ticket for three 4-year seats. Kara Scott is running on the Democratic ballot.

East Side Council (4-year): John G. Cepiel and Rudolph C. Schoch are the only two candidates on the Republican ballot for three 4-year seats. There are no candidates on the Democrat ballot.

Jim Thorpe Council (2-year): Connor Rodgers and Sydney R. Wernett are both running on the Republican ticket for one spot. Michael Rivkin and Michael J. Yeastedt are vying for the spot on the Democrat ticket for one 2-year seat.’

Jim Thorpe Council (4-year seat): Connor Rodgers and Sydney R. Wernett are both running on the Republican ticket for three 4-year spots. Michael Rivkin, Robert Schaninger, Victor Stabin, and Michael J. Yeastedt, are on the Democratic ticket for four 4-year seats.

Lansford Council (4-year): Michele R. Bartek, William J. Chuma, Joseph Lyons, Bruce Markovich, Jack B. Soberick and John M. Turcmanovich, are on the Republican ballot for four seats; Joseph Butrie and Mary Soberick, are on the Democrat ticket for four seats.

Lehighton Council, 2-year seat: Rebecca Worthy is on the Democratic ballot.

Nesquehoning Council: Bruce Nalesnik is on the Democratic ticket; Lois Corby Kuba is on the Republican ticket. There are four seats open.

Summit Hill Council (2-year seat): Marlene Basiago, Sandra L. Dellicker, Alan Kruslicky are running on the Republican ticket. Lacey Gonzalez, Michael Kokinda II, Karen L. Ruzicka and David A. Wargo are competing for the spot on the Democratic ballot.

Summit Hill Council (4-year): Marlene Basiago, Alan Kruslicky and Sandra L. Dellicker, are on the Republican ticket for four seats; Lacey Gonzalez, Michael Kokinda II, Karen L. Ruzicka and David A. Wargo are on the Democratic ballot.

Palmerton Council (4-year): Terry Lee Costenbader, Raberta Hans and Andrew Hollywood, are on the Republican ballot for three 4-year seats. Holly F. Hausman Sell is on the Democratic ballot.

Palmerton Council (2-year): William Gallagher is on the Republican ballot. No Democrats are listed. One seat is open.

Weatherly Council (4-year): Michael A. Bellizia and Joseph M. Cyburt, are on the Republican ballot for two 4-year seats. Joseph A. Thomas is on the Democrat ticket.
