The Rev. William Wartluft, and his wife, Ruth, received the 1989 National Community Service Awards from the American Association of Retired Persons on Wednesday night.

The Wartlufts are members of the Lansford chapter of AARP and were selected for their outstanding contributions to the community.

Among their many volunteer endeavors, Rev. Wartluft serves as coordinator for the American Red Cross bloodmobile, while Ruth is a representative of the Panther Valley Visiting Nurses Association. The couple is also involved in Meals on Wheels and activities at the Coaldale Hospital.
