Overeaters Anonymous

A new meeting is starting up at Our Lady Queen of Peace in the café every Friday morning at 10 a.m. It’s not a club of dieters; it’s a Fellowship of people who don’t want to suffer anymore.

There are no fees or dues for membership. All one needs is the desire to stop eating compulsively.

First Communicants

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church celebrated over 35 youth participating in the First Holy Communion event on this past Sunday. The Youth were celebrated as they participated in that milestone.

Volleyball times

Effort UMC will host various volleyball teams at its Pavilion tonight, tomorrow night and Tuesday coming for this week ahead.

More playing is taking place at other sites.

Missions meal

The West End Missions dinner will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Thursday beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Polk Supervisors

The Polk Township Board of Supervisors is slated to meet at 8 a.m. Thursday at the municipal building in Kresgeville for a general meeting.

Primetimers meet

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church will host its Primetimers meeting at noon on Friday.

Folks 50 and older may join in for a time of fellowship, but are asked to bring a dish of food to share.

Pizza sale

McMichaels UMC is hosting another pizza sale. Orders are due to Martha Stout at 570-992-6742 by tomorrow. The pizzas are cheese and sauce only. Pickup is at the church, on the corner of Rt. 715 and White Church Rd., by noon on May 20.

K of C meeting

The Knights of Columbus are meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Thursday.

Lyme Awareness

This month is Lyme Awareness Month. According to the Tick Research Lab, in partnership with ESU, the lab has tested over 65,135 ticks and currently the percentage of ticks infected is approximately 50 percent. (One out of every 2 adult female blacklegged ticks.)

The Tick Research Lab of Pennsylvania is continuing to offer Free Basic Panel Tick Testing for PA residents through funds received from the PA Department of Health.

Seniors menus

The folks attending the Chestnuthill Senior Center, at the Zion Lutheran Church complex in Brodheadsville, can choose baked fish or egg salad for Friday’s meal and and Sausage Calabrese or dill turkey for May 17.

For meal reservations call Manager Donna Riedel by 11 a.m., one day in advance, at 570-242-6770.

Breakfast served

There will be another donation-only breakfast at McMichaels UMC on Saturday. It will be available from 8 to 10 a.m., either eat-in or take-out.

Effort pantry

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

Fellowship breakfast

Effort UMC will hold its Fellowship Breakfast on Sunday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in Wesley Hall, between its two worship services.

Senior lunch

Monday, at 1 p.m., there will be a congregational Senior luncheon at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Prayer Shawl time

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry will be meeting and warming those needles from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday as busy hands make many stitches of love and caring for hurting folks.

Birding the Bog

The Monroe County Conservation District will hold another morning of birding at the Tannersville Bog on May 17.
