Council reduces letter of credit for beverage business

Lehighton has reduced the letter of credit for a beverage outlet proposed along Blakeslee Boulevard.

On a 6-0 vote, borough council on Monday approved a request from Mitch 328 to reduce the letter of credit by $67,777, with the new letter of credit being $129,028 for the Blakeslee Station Project.

Councilman Darryl Arner was absent.

Construction work continues at Mason’s Cold Beer Too, at 101 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive East.

The plan calls for a two-unit building constructed on roughly one acre west of Advance Auto. The location had been used by a farm stand.

It will be a 52-by-152-foot building, half of which would be a beverage center (beer store), and the other half potentially wine and spirits.

Todd Mason said they are trying to attract the wine and spirits store to come along and occupy the building.

Mason said they would like to be open by the Fourth of July, but definitely will be open by Labor Day.
