Seth Whitehead achieves Eagle Scout rank

Seth Whitehead, of Clamtown Troop 755, received the rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor held on Saturday, April 22 at the East Penn Sporting Club in Lehighton.

Since joining scouting in 2011, Whitehead has held numerous leadership positions within the troop, including instructor, assistant patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He has earned 41 merit badges and four Eagle Palms (one silver, one gold and two bronze).

Whitehead’s Eagle Scout project involved design and construction of a permanent, weather resistant cornhole set at West Penn Park in New Ringgold. He received donations for the materials, along with a donation of time and equipment to help transport and set the cornhole boards.

State Sen. David Argall, state Rep. Jamie Barton, and West Penn Lions Club President Karissa Brothers were in attendance to honor Whitehead with certificates and words of acclamation.

In addition, Whitehead received dozens of congratulatory letters and certificates sent by other government officials, college presidents and other dignitaries who were unable to attend.

Whitehead is a junior at Tamaqua Area Senior High School. He is enrolled in honors classes and is an honor-roll student. He also enjoys high school activities, such as the Drama Club. Outside of school in his free time, he enjoys spending time with friends, trap shooting and hunting.

Whitehead lives in Andreas with his parents, Charles and Desiree Whitehead, and 15-year-old sister, Abigail.

Whitehead plans to attend college after graduation and would like to major in veterinary medicine. He has shown interest in Delaware Valley, University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Pittsburgh.

At the court of honor, Whitehead thanked his fellow scouts, family, and the scout leaders of Troop 755, for their involvement throughout his scouting career. He also presented pins to his grandparents, Denise and Darryl Moyer of Andreas, and Nancy and Charles Whitehead Sr. of Lansford.

Chartered in 1950, Troop 755 is one of the oldest Boy Scout troops in Schuylkill County, and Seth is the 63rd scout to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. More information about the troop can be found on their Facebook page “Clamtown Troop 755.”
