Local Roundup: Results from May 6-7

Northwestern won a pair of baseball games over the weekend, defeating Salisbury on Saturday and edging Palmerton Sunday in the completion of a suspended game.

Elsewhere, Marian posted wins in both baseball and softball action.

BASEBALL

Weatherly-Panther Valley

Michael Pascoe and Tyler Black combined on a four-inning perfect game as Panther Valley cruised to a 15-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Pascoe struck out six in 2 1/3 innings, while Black fanned four in his 1 2/3 innings of work.

The Panthers received plenty of offensive support as 15 different players had at least a hit, scored a run, or knocked in one.

Matt Engler collected two hits, one a solo homer, while Trey McAndrews finished with two hits, a pair of runs and an RBI. PV also received two hits and two runs from Andrew Kokinda, and three RBIs from Aiden Rohrbach.

The Panthers improved to 16-1 overall and 10-1 in the league, while the Wreckers fell to 3-14 and 1-10.

Lehighton-Catasauqua

Carter Birnbaum tuned in a solid pitching outing to help Lehighton gain an 11-1 non-league victory over Salisbury.

Birnbaum pitched five innings, allowing just two hits and an unearned run. He didn’t walk any and struck out six. Birnbaum also helped his own cause with a double and two RBIs.

Austin Greene and Ian Rarick both finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Indians, while John Light added a couple hits and three RBIs.

The Indians upped their mark to 12-6, while the Roughies dropped to 4-14.

Northwestern-Palmerton

In a Colonial League suspended game completed Sunday, Northwestern pushed across two runs in the 12th inning to earn an 8-6 victory over Palmerton.

Josh Lichman, Robert Croneberger and Chase Moyer all finished with three hits for the Tigers, while George and Augustus both added two. Croneberger and Augustus each knocked in a pair of runs.

Aidan Freeman pitched a scoreless 12th to gain the win.

The Blue Bombers received two hits and two RBIs from Nate Stroup, and Cole Serfass contributed a pair of hits.

Northwestern is now 12-7 overall and 10-6 in the league, while Palmerton slipped to 12-6 and 10-6.

Northwestern-Salisbury

A key hit by pinch-hitter Shane Hulmes helped Northwestern hold off Salisbury for a 7-3 Colonial League victory.

Leading 3-2, Hulmes delivered a three-run double in the seventh inning to give the Tigers needed insurance.

Joshua Lichman and Robert Croneberger both finished with a single and double. Lichman added two runs, while Croneberger knocked in two runs. The winners also received two hits, one a triple, from Joshua Farber, and a couple hits from Chase Moyer.

Executive Ed.-Marian

Marian cruised to a 14-4 non-league victory over Executive Education.

The Colts (9-7), who scored in every inning, received two hits from four different players.

Mike Gelatko led the way with a single, triple and three RBIs. Brian Hinkle added two hits and three runs, while Andrew Baran contributed a pair of hits and two RBIs. Joey Walko also finished with two hits and a run.

Brandywine-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe used a five-run sixth inning to help gain an 8-7 non-league victory over Brandywine Heights.

The Olympians, who erased a 5-3 deficit with their big inning, were led by Ian Henkels, who finished with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.

Rich Strack also chipped in with a hit and two RBIs for Thorpe, now 5-13.

Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley rolled to a 26-4 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg North.

The Bears had 12 hits, but also received 15 walks.

Ben Mostosky had two hits, scored three times and knocked in two runs for the Bears, who improved to 11-8 overall and 9-6 in the league.

Nathan Loch connected for a home run, while Jack Smale finished with two hits - one a triple - and three runs scored. The winners also received three RBIs from both Maverick Walsh and Blake Walters, and two each from Ian Campbell and Gabe Starnadori.

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Weatherly jumped out to an early lead and held on to post a 6-5 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Winning pitcher Madisyn vonFrisch had three hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Wreckers, who were up 6-0 after two innings. vonFrisch struck out 12 batters and fought off a late Panther rally.

The winners also received three hits, one a double, and three RBIs from Rachel Rosenlund.

For the Panthers, Kyla McQuillen and Morgan Orsulak both finished with two hits and two runs. PV’s Mikayla Yuricheck also added a pair of hits, one a triple.

Weatherly upped its overall mark to 10-5, clinching a district playoff berth, and 6-5 in the league. Panther Valley fell to 6-11 and 3-8.

Marian cruised to a 15-0 non-league victory over Executive Education.

Morgan Kelly pitched a one-hitter in the four-inning contest, striking out nine. Kelly also collected a single, double, scored three runs and knocked in three.

The Fillies’ Julia Meiss added two hits, one a triple, and scored twice. Gracie Gallagher added a hit, two runs and three RBIs, while Malina Letcher chipped in with a hit and three runs.

Marian improved to 13-4.

Palmerton-Brandywine

A big game offensively from Hailey Barry helped Palmerton earn a 13-6 non-league victory over Brandywine Heights.

Barry finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

The Blue Bombers (12-7) also received two hits, one a double, and two RBIs from Kelsey Balliet, while Sydney Frantz added a pair of hit and two runs.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Pleasant Valley-Pennridge

In a game from Friday night, Pleasant Valley pulled out an 11-10 overtime victory over Pennridge to finish regular-season play undefeated.

Devon Bush had seven goals for the Bears, who will enter the postseason with an 18-0 mark.

PV’s Rylee Rath added three goals and four assists, while Riley Green and Keylee Dugey both added a score.
