The identity of the person who died after a crash during a police pursuit early Monday morning in Monroe County has been released.

Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac Jr. identified the individual as Ryan VanGorden, 51, of Stroudsburg.

Yanac said an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Yanac said his office was called out just before 2:30 a.m. to the scene of the crash along Neyhart Road in Hamilton Township.

Pennsylvania State Police Stroudsburg barracks attempted to initiate a traffic stop of a motorcycle after observing a traffic violation. Police did not release the exact location of the crash.

VanGorden continued to drive, lost control on a curve, drove off the roadway and ultimately struck a utility pole.

Troopers summoned EMS immediately following the crash.

VanGorden was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains active, and updated information will be released when it becomes available, police said.
