The Jim Thorpe Area School District board of directors last night voted to construct a new $2,160,000 elementary school on a 22-acre site the district owns on West 10th Street in Jim Thorpe.

In casting affirmative votes, board members indicated making renovations to the elementary center, Asa Packer and Bevan schools would not be feasible move, considering the high costs and the fact the school building regulations are becoming more stringent with each succeeding year, meaning a new school would have to be provided at some future date.

The estimated space allocation would take care of 700 students – 580 elementary and 120 kindergarten.
