Walker Township Supervisors will accept bids for up to $130,000 for 5 miles of tarring and chipping on township roads.
The project would include about 1.7 miles on Catawissa Road, 1 mile on Mountain Road, and 2.2 miles on Valley Road.
The supervisors said Thursday they plan to drive around the township to confirm the exact areas of the roads that will be done; plus, other roads on which Roadmaster Chad Felty and township crews can do additional patching.
Wildcat Park project
Work on the upgrades to Wildcat Park are expected to begin this summer.
Roadmaster Chad Felty said they hope to get Sealmaster in to resurface the tennis courts and basketball courts in June or July. The surface will be a special anti-skid sealer and will be black.
“And we’ll be the first in the area to have a pickleball Court,” added Borough Secretary Ann Ostergaard.
The project has a budget of approximately $80,000. In addition to resurfacing, the project includes replacing the swings and adding a new play structure. The current monkey bars, sliding board, and merry-go-round will stay. For ADA compliance, a handicapped parking space, paved pathways, and special swings will be added.
Another section will include benches and some picnic tables. That area could be used for expansion in the future.
Felty also reported that he had rented a machine and dug a trench and ran conduit from the township building to the pavilion to install a midway box near the basketball courts.
Fire company meal
The New England Fire Company will hold a drive-through BBQ Chicken Dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 13. It includes 1/2 chicken, potato, coleslaw, applesauce, a roll, and a drink. Pies will also be available for sale. Call Charles at 570-640-6009 for information and tickets.
