Walnutport man charged in Lower Towamensing shooting

A Walnutport man was charged Thursday afternoon in the shooting Saturday on Hahns Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township.

Ivan Jordan Gonzales, 19, is in Carbon County Prison on charges of criminal attempt - criminal homicide, aggravated assault - attempts to cause injury with extreme indifference, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; recklessly endangering another person and criminal use of communication facility. He was arraigned by District Judge William Kissner, who denied bail.

Police said he shot 19-year-old Kadin Brunell in the left shoulder. The victim’s grandfather had video surveillance from the scene and identified the shooter as being in a 2013 red Hyundai Genesis coupe with black rims. Brunell was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest for treatment.

According to court papers, women who were in the car with Gonzales said he used his GPS to search Brunell’s address. He went to Brunell’s residence to pick up marijuana. Brunell handed him the bag and asked Gonzales where the money was. That’s when Gonzales shot him, witnesses said.

They also said Gonzales had been known to rob drug dealers.

Police searched Brunell’s residence and found drugs, drug paraphernalia, cash and items consistent with drug dealing.
