An active shooter event can happen anywhere.
But the question is, do you know what to do to best prepare for such a crisis?
Nesquehoning police, in conjunction with the Carbon County Sheriff Dan Zeigler, have announced a new training that will prepare residents on what they can do if an active shooter event occurs.
Nesquehoning Police Chief Michael Weaver, a certified instructor in active shooter response trainings, announced that there will be a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events from 6-8 p.m. on June 6 at the Nesquehoning Borough Hall, 114 W. Catawissa St.
This first class is open to 30 people. They will learn how to identify response options in an active shooter or other life-threatening incident.
The course covers events, much like a recent training course for area law enforcement, and will allow the community to better prepare for situations if one would ever happen in the area.
Registration is required by June 1 by emailing Weaver at weaver@nesquehoning.org or calling the police office at 570-669-9111; or Zeigler at sheriff@carboncourts.com.
