CCTI Report
CCTI approved the following actions at the April meeting of the Joint Operating Committee:
• Letter of resignation received from Jean Bales, Special Education/Social Studies Teacher effective June 6.
• Appointed Julian Valentini Social Studies/Special Education Teacher, effective Aug. 24, at step 1.
• The following people be employed for additional days from June 6 and Aug. 23:
Rebecca Schaeffer, school nurse – up to 4 days to ensure immunizations are up to date.
Tammy Marshall, cosmetology instructor – up to 4 days for theory room, lab and salon redesign and curriculum development.
Julian Valentini, social studies/special education teacher, 10 days. Three of the 10 days will be utilized for New Student Orientation.
• Appointed Samuel Lux as a Type 04 LongTerm Health/Physical Education Substitute effective April 24 through June 1, at the rate of $160 per day.
• Amanda Belford as an Instructional Aide at a prorated Step 1 salary; also as an Extra Help Instructor in conjunction with the after school program at $25 per hour on an as needed/scheduled basis.
• To increase the monthly superintendent of record stipend to $150, effective Aug. 1, 2023. Payment is based on attendance at regularly scheduled Joint Operating Committee meetings (up to 12 per year) and paid in full following the completion of the appointed term.
• To extend the appointment of Robert Presley, Jim Thorpe Area School District Superintendent as Superintendent of Record for Carbon Career & Technical Institute through July 31, 2024 at the established per meeting stipend (based on attendance) of $150, beginning Aug. 1. Payment will be based on attendance at regularly scheduled Joint Operating Committee meetings (up to 12 per year) and paid in full following the completion of each year of the appointed term.
• To increase the length of the Superintendent of Record term to two years effective Aug. 1, 2024 with a per meeting stipend (based on attendance) of $150. Payment will be based on attendance at regularly scheduled
Joint Operating Committee meetings (up to 12 per year) and paid in full following the completion of each year of the appointed term.
Note: Term runs from Aug. 1 through July 31 of the second year.
• Fifteen Welding students attend an educational event at the Philly Shipyard May 5 in Philadelphia. Tom Bartholomew, Welding Instructor and Ken Bond, Welding Instructional Aide will chaperone this event. This is an annual welding class trip.
• Twenty-two Digital Marketing students attend the Tourism Day Summit with Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (and Monroe Career & Technical Institute at Kalahari Resorts May 9, in Pocono Manor. Carly Rinda, digital marketing instructor, Laura Foeller, instructional aide, and Julian Valentini, instructional aide will chaperon this event. Cost for this trip will be covered by students and student activity fund.
• Twenty-two Culinary Arts students attend an educational event at Walnut Hill College May 23, in Philadelphia. Chef Anthony (A.J.) Burke, Culinary Arts Instructor, Ashleigh Rehrig, Culinary Arts Instructional Aide, and Michele Troutman, Culinary Arts Instructional Aide will chaperon this event.
• Two Health Medical students attend HOSA’s International Leadership Conference (Competition), June 19-25 in Dallas, Texas at a cost not to exceed $5,200 to cover the expense of registration, transportation, and lodging. Donna McClain, Health Medical Instructor/HOSA Advisor will chaperon this event. Note: Expenses for the trip are included in the 2022-2023 General Fund Budget.
• Approve the addition of trigonometry as a CCTI course offering beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. Prerequisites would be Algebra II and Geometry.
• Approve the professional service agreement provided by GKO (Godshall Kane O’Rourke) Architects, LLC for the Cosmetology expansion and Digital Marketing relocation project. Project is slated for summer 2024.
• To contract with BHA for a mental health support specialist for the time period April 24, through Aug. 31, 2024. Services will be funded through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency) School Safety and Security Grant.
•To approve the purchase of PowerSchool Ecollect Forms at a total cost of $3,593.25 for one year.
• Brent Borzak, administrative director, and up to 10 CCTI staff members attend the 2023 Conference on Integrated Learning: The School-to-Career Connection Conference Nov. 8-10 at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, State College, PA at a total approximate cost of $3,000 to cover early bird registration/meals, lodging, and mileage. Note: Conference attendance will be funded through the Perkins Grant.
