Carbon County is moving along on some renovation projects, while others are still in a holding pattern.
On Thursday, Commissioner Rocky Ahner announced that the Children and Youth department would be completely moved into the 525 Iron St., Lehighton building the first week of June. Originally, the county hoped to get them into the building in May.
Work is finishing up at the site, which was formerly owned by St. Luke’s, and will provide additional space for the department.
In the administration building, work continues on the HVAC and roof project, with an anticipated completion date in June.
However, work on damage done by a water leak on the third floor of the building remains in limbo while the adjuster and county insurance provider work out the final details.
Ahner said that he sent them the information they needed to see the cost to have the IT department move people around in the building during the repairs. He anticipates it could take approximately six weeks and cost the county about $5,100 in overtime.
“I’m hoping that it’s going to be done shortly,” he said.
In 44 Susquehanna St., which also had a water leak on the first floor recently, Ahner said that the county has been talking two contractors and will wait until after the election is complete to make repairs there.
