Health, wellness fair in Lehighton on Saturday
A health and wellness fair is returning to Lehighton Area School District on Saturday with events spread between the district’s athletic stadium and elementary center.
The festivities will run between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and include a Strides Against Stigma walk, St. Luke’s University Health Network bike helmet giveaway, smoking/vaping cessation information, Pennsylvania State Police car seat safety check, local ambulance and fire equipment on display and more.
“This is something that was done previously in the district and we’re looking to bring it back and expand it,” Mary Figura, Lehighton assistant to the superintendent, said during a school board meeting last month. “We reached out to some vendors regarding safety activities. This is right around the time of prom, and the weather is getting nice, so it’s a great fit. The goal was to really get this up and running again as a community event.”
The Strides Against Stigma 5K is being held in conjunction with Aevidum, an organization which strives to end the stigma and silence surrounding depression, suicide, and other issues facing teens. A registration link for the walk can be found at https://www.lehighton.org/domain/651.
A variety of vendors will be located at the elementary center, a map can be found on the school district website at www.lehighton.org.
