A popular cafe in Weissport plans to close in June.

UnCommon Grounds also suspended operations of its mobile cafe, according to a Facebook post Monday from UnCommon Grounds at Hofford Mill.

“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we are announcing that we will be closing our cafe located inside the Hofford Mill in June,” according to the post from owners Melvin and Michelle Keil.

UnCommon Grounds, however, will continue its roasted coffee sales and operations at the Hometown Farmers Market in Rush Township on Wednesdays.

“We will announce, in the future, where you can pick up our coffee if you are unable to make it to the market on Wednesdays. We wanted to make this announcement early, so that anyone with gift cards would be able to use them throughout May (although they can continue to be used at the Market as well as online for roasted coffee sales),” according to the post.

The Keils said they are “hoping and praying” that by downsizing the operation “we can ride out this bumpy road that we, and all small businesses, are on so that we can come back at another location stronger than ever.”

The business began in 2017 as a mobile cafe that traveled to markets, fairs and festivals. The site at the Hofford Mill entertainment complex, 500 Bridge St., Weissport, opened in 2020.

Each year since then, UnCommon Grounds has won the Times News Reader’s Choice Award for Best Coffee.

The business also serves specialty beverages such as hot chocolate, apple ciders and fruit shakes. The coffee bar offers homemade crepes and baked goods.

“You all have become family to us and we honestly love you all,” the post from the Keils said. “We’ve fought the good fight these last few years and you all have fought right alongside of us and we can’t thank you enough.”

Michelle Keil told the Times News that UnCommon Grounds “has always been much more than just a business to us, it’s about family and community.”

She said she wanted to focus on the remaining time they have with their “amazing” team and customers.

“We’ve been honored to be your choice for coffee in Carbon County every year and, rather than be sad through this last month of operation, we hope to make it a celebration of what, with your help, we’ve accomplished,” she said.
