Franklin Township Supervisors

Franklin Township supervisors took the following action last week:

• Agreed to support the Franklin Township Athletic Association’s efforts to apply for grants for Phifer Ice Dam.

• Agreed to get estimates for repairs for the roof of the Lions’ Club garage located at the Main Road entrance side.

• Accepted part-time clerk Nancy Koch’s retirement/resignation letter.

• Agreed to advertise for a part-time clerk.

• Agreed to look into applying for a Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful grant to receive surveillance cameras.

• Agreed to change Movie Night from Sunday, May 21, to Friday, May 19. The Recreation Advisory and Parks Board will be showing the movie “Finding Nemo.”

• Announced that the stocked pond at the Phifer’s Ice Dam Park will be closed to anyone older than 15 beginning at 12 a.m. May 16, and will remain closed until 12 a.m. June 4.

• Approved the requests from Lehighton Borough to have Franklin Township’s fire police assist with traffic control for Lehighton’s Annual Wine on the River event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6; Lehighton Area School District Class of 2023 graduation parade at 6 p.m. June 7; and LASD Class of 2023 commencement program scheduled for 7 p.m. June 9.

• Approved fire Chief Lynn Diehl’s request for the fire company to participate in the Carbon County Community Safety Day May 6 at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, the Weissport Community Parade May 20, and the First Responders Expo of Carbon County at the Mahoning Valley Drive-in on June 22.
