The Carbon County Easter Seal Telethon surpassed expectations during its 12-hour airing over Blue Ridge Cable TV-13 Saturday. Co-chairpersons Karen Kolek, secretary, and John Seaman, executive director for the Hazleton/Carbon Unit of the Easter Seal Society, said more than $11,000 was received in pledges during the broadcast that started at noon and continued until midnight.

Seaman said all of the money raised through the telethon remains in Carbon County and will be used to help handicapped children and adults.

In the past, funds raised through the telethon enabled the society to provide new services in the county.
