Construction of the new office building on Susquehanna Street in Jim Thorpe is about 90% complete, according to Fritz Spokas, Carbon County deputy planner. He said July 1 remains the tentative opening date.

The building will house offices of the state Department of Public Assistance, now in the American Hotel, Jim Thorpe, and the state Bureau of Employment Security (Job Services), now in the auditorium of the Immaculate Conception School, Jim Thorpe.

Norman Weiss Associates of Kingston is the developer of the building on property the firm purchased from the Carbon County Redevelopment Authority.
