Pl. Valley increases security after threat

Police security was increased in the Pleasant Valley School District Monday morning after a Safe2Say message reported a threat was made on a social media platform.

According to the superintendent’s office, administration and school police received a Safe2Say message around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

Parents of students who attend the high school and middle school received a Connect Ed message around 8:30 p.m. from PVHS Co-Principal Brian Boylan to let them know about the threat and that there would be additional safety and security measures at all schools Monday morning as an extra precaution.

“A vague, nonspecific statement was made during a social media chat site group discussion on Sunday that alarmed the participants,” Boylan said in the message.

Trooper Anthony Petroski III, the Community Services and Public Information officer for the Pennsylvania State Police Troop N – Hazleton, said, “The school took extra precaution today with metal detectors and PSP had a larger presence this morning.”

The superintendent’s office said the state police, PVSD administration and school police are working to identify the source of the threat.

“The investigation will be on going,” Petroski said, “and if a suspect is determined, it will be given to the District Attorney’s Office for approval of charges. These threats are taken serious until Law Enforcement can deem otherwise and Parents should understand that PSP and the Pleasant Valley School Police will do everything within our power to protect students and staff.”

Additional security will be in place at the schools on Tuesday, as well.
