Schuylkill County candidates running in primary

Candidates on the ballot in the Times News area of Schuylkill County:

County races

Commissioner: Incumbents Barron L. Hetherington and George F. Halcovage Jr., competing with the Clerk of Courts Maria T. Casey, Minersville; Jeffrey Dunkel, Palo Alto; Larry Padora, New Ringgold; Mary Jo Moss, Orwigsburg; Dan Evans, Tamaqua; and Ray Jones, Ashland.

On the Democratic side, incumbent Gary J. Hess is campaigning for another term in office. Also running is Rita Anczarski Baldino, Kline Township.

Row offices: Republican incumbents Sharyn Yackenchick, controller; Ann Dudish, Recorder of Deeds; and Bridget McGowan Miller, prothonotary, are running unopposed.

Treasurer: Republican incumbent Linda L. Yeich and Democrat Joseph Post are seeking their party’s nod.

Clerk of Courts: Democrat Jesseca Sickle and Republican Crista DiCasimirro are each seeking party’s nomination.

Register of wills: Democrat Thomas C. McCabe and Republican incumbent Theresa Santai Gaffney are seeking a spot on the November ballot.

Coroner: Republican Dr. David Moylan is seeking to retain his seat as coroner.

Judge for Court of Common Pleas: Democrat District Attorney Michael A. O’Pake and Republican William Burke are running to fill the spot of retired Judge William Baldwin.

Magisterial district court: Republican Andrew J. Serena is campaigning for a full term in the magisterial district court, Orwigsburg. He was appointed last July by then-Governor Tom Wolf to take the place of District Judge James R. Ferrier, who retired in May 2021. Tamaqua District Judge Stephen J. Bayer is campaigning for another term.

Borough Council

Coaldale: No candidates listed for the 2-year term of auditor.

Coaldale Council, 4-year term, 4 seats available: Claire Remington is on the Democratic ticket; Wayne S. Figner and A. Kirk Waidell are on the Republican ticket.

Tamaqua Council, 4-year term, 4 seats: Tina Burns is on the Democratic ticket. Robert Amentler, Ronald Bowman, Brian Connely and Jay A. Hollenbach are all on the Republican ticket.

Tamaqua Auditor: Richard M. Hadesty Jr. is on the Republican ticket for the 6-year term. There are no candidates on the Democratic ticket.

Board of supervisors

Rush Township: George Gerhard and Jeaninne Motroni are vying for one spot on the Republican ticket for the 6-year term. There are no candidates on the Democratic ticket.

Ryan Township: David R. Morgan is on the Republican ticket for one opening for the six-year term of supervisor. There are no candidates on the Democratic ticket. Pamela S. Smith-Gerber is on the Republican ticket for auditor for the 6-year term. There are no candidates on the Democratic ticket.

Schuylkill Township: Mike Boyle is on the Republican ticket for the 6-year term of supervisor. There are no Democrats listed.

John P. Zubris is on the Republican ticket for 4-year term of auditor. There are no candidates for the 6-year term.

Walker Township: Craig Wagner is on the Republican ticket for the 6-year term of supervisor. There are no candidates on the Democratic ticket or in the auditor spot.

West Penn Township: James E. Akins is on the Republican ticket for the 6-year term of supervisor. There are no candidates on the Democratic ticket or for the auditor spot

Tamaqua Area School Board

Four-year term, 5 seats open: Thomas Bartasavage Jr., Melanie I.S. Dillman, Samuel John Koch, Daniel E. Schoener, Trina M. Shellhammer, Jessica Tirpak and Larry A. Wittig are all cross-filed. Bob Caputo is on just the Republican ballot.
