Hoagie sale

The Methodist church in McMichaels is having a hoagie sale. Orders are due by April 20 at 570-992-6742.

The pickup date is at the church from 11:30 to noon on April 27.

Eldred cleanup

On April 21 and April 22, Eldred Township will hold its spring cleanup from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The cleanup can include dumpster items and tires.

Library Week

April 23 through April 29 is National Library Week and the Western Pocono Community Library is celebrating with special programs and contests all week leading up to Carnival Night (grades K-5) on Thursday, April 27 at 6 p.m.

Blood donors

The Miller-Keystone Blood Drive moved to the second and fourth Monday in the Western Pocono Community Library track area. Appointments must be made directly with Miller-Keystone.

Special presentation

The Ross Township Historical Society is hosting a presentation and book signing of “Etna, A Murder Out of Time” by co-authors Michael Mancuso and Eric J. Kerchner, at 2 p.m., April 29.

This book details the investigation of the 142plus-year-old cold case murder of 17-year-old Hamilton Township resident, Etna Bittenbender. The presentation will discuss historical aspects of Etna’s unsolved murder and will touch on more recent homicides within Monroe County.

The presentation will be held at the Ross Township Historical Museum located at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg. Light refreshments will be served. There is no charge for admission, but donations are welcome.

The Ross Society is also hosting a free admission to its museum, at 258 Anchorage Rd., Saylorsburg, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 6. One can view photographs, artifacts and items specific to Ross Township.

Chicken dinner

Effort UMC has announced its chicken barbecue dinner as set for April 29. More details forthcoming.

Purse bingo

PV Cubs is holding a Purse Bingo on April 30 at the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company firehouse. Doors open at noon, bingo starts at 1:30.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, reminds folks that if more space is needed for a graduation party, retirement celebration, family reunion or shower Zion’s hall is available to rent and plenty of parking is available.

Friendship Day

Church Women United of Monroe County has announced its May Friendship Day celebration as set for 1:30 p.m. May 6, at Zion United Church of Christ, 1160 Clause Drive, Stroudsburg.

There will be dessert and coffee/tea after the service.

Turkey dinner

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is having a turkey takeout dinner on May 6. Dinner includes turkey, filling w/gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or apple cake.

To order call 570-688-5381 no later than April 23. Celery seed dressing is available for sale in quart or pint. Pickup of dinners is on May 6 at the church between 4 and 5:30 p.m.

Identity theft event

Rep. Jack Rader is hosting an identity theft seminar from 5 to 7 p.m., June 15, at the Ross Township Municipal Building, 250 Anchorage Rd., Saylorsburg.

Dave Shallcross, director of Senior Protection from the Attorney General’s office will speak.
