State Police at Fern Ridge - theft reports

A 35-year-old Brodheadsville man is facing theft by deception charges filed against him by state police at Fern Ridge.

Police said the victim is a 34-year-old man from Saylorsburg.

Police said they were called at 4:59 p.m. March 2 to a residence on Rising Hill Drive in Chestnuthill Township, where a woman reported a man made unauthorized charges to her Chase credit card in the amount of $5,299.42. The 35-year-old Albrightsville woman is out $2,000, police said.

• State police at Fern Ridge said they were summoned to investigate an incident at 3:31 p.m. April 5 at a property on Towamensing Trail, Penn Forest Township.

Police said a woman told them she was contacted by email by Gannet Publishing, which offered her a job but instructed here to send money through CashApp or Zelle for office supplies and software for her to work from home.

Police said the woman was also sent a fraudulent business check that was deposited in her personal bank account but bounced due to no funds being available.

Police remind the public no one is going to offer a job to someone and ask them to pay for materials up front or to deposit money through CashApp, Zelle or Facebook.

• A 30-year-old Albrightsville man is the victim of an identity theft attempt that was reported to state police at Fern Ridge at 5:14 p.m. on March 7.

Police were called to a property on Sassafras Road, Penn Forest Township, where the man reported an attempt was made to open a credit card in his name.

The man did not sustain any loss in the incident.

• State police at Fern Ridge are investigating a theft by deception incident that was reported to them at 7:09 a.m. March 4 by a 55-year-old Brodheadsville man.

Police said they went to a property on Rt. 209 in Chestnuthill Township, where the man reported someone attempted to open a bank account online by using his personal information.

The man did not lose money.
