Lansford to spend $55K on road repairs

Lansford Borough expects to spend about $55,000 on street repairs this year, said Councilman Bill Chuma during Tuesday’s committee meetings.

How much gets done depends on the cost of materials, he said.

Streets proposed included the 200-block of East Kline Avenue, a portion from the funeral home to the corner of Chestnut Street; Dock Street at the water company garage, where there was flood damage; Coal Street from Abbott to Water streets and Patterson to Bertsch streets.

Also, the 300-block of West Kline Avenue, which has potholes, needs concrete work and a storm sewer; and the 100-block of East Front Street, which is also in sad shape, Chuma said.

Another street on the wish list is the 300-block of East Water Street, Chuma said. He would like to see about 250 feet of the road done, as the borough can’t afford to fix all 900 feet at once, he said.

But it depends on how the bids for the materials come in, and what the borough can afford to repair, Chuma said. The borough will use about $50,000 in state Liquid Fuels funds for the street work, he said.

Street sweeping

Street sweeping starts next week, Chuma said.

On Monday, sweeping will be done on the north side of Patterson Street, and on Tuesday, switched to the south side of Patterson. On Wednesday, both sides of Snyder Street will done, and only the north side of Ridge Street.

Sweeping will continue on the south side of Ridge Street on Thursday, and all of Kline Avenue, both sides. On Friday, sweeping will move to the north side of Bertsch Street, and all of Water Street, both sides.

The following week will follow this schedule: south side of Bertsch Street and all of Front Street, Monday; north side of Abbott Street and the east side of hills, Tuesday; south side of Abbott Street and the west side of hills, Wednesday; and Springgarden and Andrewsville streets, Thursday.
