Lehighton intends to move forward with the creation of a horse-drawn carriage ordinance.
Borough council took action on Monday when it unanimously agreed to advertise the ordinance.
Councilwoman Autumn Abelovsky said she had several questions about the ordinance, which were addressed by borough solicitor Jim Nanovic.
Originally, Abelovsky brought the matter up for discussion at last month’s meeting, at which time Public Works Superintendent Kris Kunkle said that there have been issues with people not cleaning up the horse waste.
Abelovsky said at that time that while she isn’t against having horse-drawn carriages, she just wants them to follow the rules.
Councilman Ryan Saunders said at that time he believes the borough should have some sort of permit program to make sure certain criteria are followed.
Last year, several horse-drawn carriage rides were offered in the borough as part of several events, including Rocktoberfest.
