Several young people enjoyed the first day of trout fishing season as the Germantown Grove Club in East Jim Thorpe held its Open Day Youth Fishing at the Grove on Saturday. The grove stocked the creek with fish on Thursday.
The Grove, along with American Legion Post 304, will host the 69th annual Special Needs Fishing Derby on Thursday and Friday, May 11 and 12, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days. The event is open to special needs children aged 5 to 20 and their caretakers. Invitations were sent to several area schools.
The derby was started in 1954 by the American Legion Post 304 and Germantown resident Phil Rodgers and others. The day includes food and drink, plus prizes. Any questions, call 610-597-6727 or 570-657-0463.
