The 44th annual Northeastern Pa. American Cancer Telethon features remotes broadcasts from five locations this year and stories from area residents and families touched by the disease. The telethon airs live from Penn’s Peak Saturday and Sunday from noon to midnight, featuring a range of talent from the area.

A segment of Sunday evening will be devoted to remembering Danny Farole, the long-time telethon supporter and performer who passed away earlier this year. Farole performed on the first ACS Telethon which aired from Tamaqua Area High School. He appeared on nearly all 43 telethons since then.

The ACS Telethon can be seen on Blue Ridge Cable’s channel 13; in Pottsville on Comcast channel 15; in the Lehigh Valley on Service Electric channel 50; in Tamaqua and Hazleton on Service Electric channel 90.

Pottsville remotes: Lori Kane hosts six remotes from the Yuengling Museum between noon and 3 p.m. Saturday. She will be interviewing Pottsville businesspeople and Nativity BVM students.

Tamaqua remotes: Doug Yasinsky will be talking to guests at The Wasbash and Stoker’s Brewing Company. Marta Gouger will be presenting Courage Awards at the Tamaqua Train Station.

Lehigh Valley remotes: Mike Kelly will host six remotes from the Steel Pub between 5:45 p.m. and 9 p.m. Sunday with guests including families affected by cancer.

During the weekend, seven area residents whose lives have been touched by cancer will receive the telethon’s Courage Award and share their stories: Bernard Krebs of Jim Thorpe; Michelle Hermany of Tamaqua; Joe Guardiani of Nesquehoning: Allison Rankis-Solley of Bethlehem; Suzanne and Vicky Pratt of West Penn Township; and Emily FaRannte of Lower Macungie Township.

Viewers can make pledges online at www.cancertelethon.org or by calling 800-883-2109 in memory of a lost friend or relative or in honor of someone fighting cancer. Pledges are also encouraged in support of the 38 live performances scheduled during the program’s 24 hours.
