Miller seeks re-election as Carbon County coroner

Robert W. Miller Jr. of Mahoning Township has announced his candidacy for re-election to a third term of office as the Coroner of Carbon County. He is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination in the May 16 primary election.

Miller has been in the Coroner’s Office since 1988, and the coroner for the last 8 years. He has been the investigator for over 1,600 death cases. He manages a staff of 8 part-time employees all of whom are PA State certified under the Attorney General’s Office. During his tenure, he has restructured the office by adding computer technology to produce death certificates which has saved the taxpayers thousands of dollars. Presently he is working on an online credit card system for funeral directors.

Miller is a lifelong resident of Carbon County growing up in Franklin Township. He graduated from Lehighton Area High School and went on to Drexel University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and a minor in anatomy.

Miller is a member of the PA State Coroner’s Association and the Child Death Review Team.

He knows Carbon County well. He currently is the Hazardous Materials Officer and the Radiological Defense Officer in the Emergency Management Agency and is presently the chairman of the county’s Local Emergency Planning Committee. He also maintains his certification as a PA Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician which he has held for 50 years.

He is married to Diana Fabian of Palmerton. The couple has a son who is a Detective Corporal in the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department. He has followed in his father’s footsteps in the crime investigation unit.

Miller said, “l plan to continue the progress that has been made in the Coroner’s Office, and I also want to continue to provide the highest professional service to the residents of Carbon County in their time of need.”
