Local roundup: Results from March 28

It was a good day for area baseball teams as Marian, Palmerton, Panther Valley, Tamaqua, Jim Thorpe and Lehighton all posted victories.

BASEBALL

Weatherly-Marian

Pitcher Jake Bobish fired a one-hitter as Marian cruised to a 15-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Bobish only allowed a second inning hit to the Wreckers’ Klaus Eroh, while striking out seven in the four-inning, mercy-rule shortened contest.

Meanwhile, the Colts offense banged out 12 hits and scored in every atbat. Brian Hinkle had a pair of hits and scored four runs, while Chase Petrilyak had two hits and three RBIs to lead the way. Also contributing were Michael Gelatko (one hit, two RBIs, two runs); Joe Walko (two hits, a run scored, two RBIs); Rawlin Melendez (two singles, two runs scored, RBI); Lachian Segedy (one hit, two RBIs); and Cory Nolasco (two singles, two runs scored).

Palmerton-Northwestern

Palmerton capitalized on two costly Northwestern miscues to escape with a 4-3 Colonial League win.

Trailing by a run entering the top of the seventh inning, the Bombers’ Cole Serfass opened the inning with a double down the left field line and later scored on a Jacob Grammes’ sacrifice fly to tie the game. Courtesy runner Dalton Rumfield eventually scored the winning run on the Tigers’ second error of the inning.

Serfass finished with a single, double, two runs scored and an RBI for Palmerton.

Eli Zimmerman had two singles and a run scored for Northwestern

Panther Vy.-Shenandoah

Stephen Hood had a dominant performance on the mound to lead Panther Valley to a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory over Shenandoah Valley.

Hood went the distance and allowed just two hits. He recorded 12 strikeouts and walked just one in a 98-pitch effort that included an impressive 71 strikes.

The Panthers (2-0) plated the game’s lone run when Cody Orsulak scored on a fielding error in the fourth.

Hayden Goida and Michael Pascoe had the Panthers’ lone hits.

Shenandoah Valley’s Kaleb Maksimik was equally as impressive on the mound, as he also struck out 12 and walked two.

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Mason Ligenza twirled a complete-game, two-hitter to lead Tamaqua to a 4-2 victory over Pottsville in Schuylkill League play.

Ligenza struck out seven and walked two in his 94-pitch performance.

Luke Kane had two hits and two RBIs, while Cian McLaughlin added a pair of hits for the Blue Raiders.

With the win, Tamaqua improved to 2-0, while Pottsville fell to 0-2.

Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe broke open a close game with a five-run explosion in the fifth inning and went on to beat Pine Grove 8-2 in Schuylkill League play.

Ian Henkels picked up the pitching victory for the Olympians and also added a single and an RBI at the plate.

Garrett Lienhard had two hits and an RBI for Thorpe (2-2), while Richie Strack and Tanner Yurchak both had a hit and an RBI.

Lehighton jumped out to an early lead and held off a late rally by North Schuylkill to record a 9-6 Schuylkill League win.

Noah Barndt and Austin Greene had the hot bats for the Indians as both finished with three singles, a run scored and two RBIs.

Ian Rarick (two singles, two runs scored) and Michael Yeakel (two singles) also had big games for Lehighton.

Pleasant Valley-Allen

Allen jumped out to an early lead and held off host Pleasant Valley for a 15-12 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.

Jack Smale had three hits and four RBIs, and Nathan Loch had three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Bears (2-2). Both players also belted home runs. Other players contributing offensively were Ben Mostosky (two hits and three RBIs), and Michael Konooke (two hits).

Kyle Kullman, John Phillips, and Ryan Hoffman all had two hits for Allen (3-2).

Southern Lehigh scored in every at-bat on its way to 21-0 Colonial League win over host Northern Lehigh.

Northern Lehigh (2-2) was held to two hits by Southern Lehigh starter Luke Lea, who struck out nine.

Janssen Brown, Michael O’Neill and Eli Calabra all had two hits for Southern Lehigh, which evened its record at 1-1.

Pine Grove rolled to an 18-3, four-inning victory over host Jim Thorpe in Schuylkill League play.

The Cardinals were led by Callee Leffler, who had three hits and three RBIs.

Jim Thorpe (1-3) was paced by Amanad Goodchild, who had two hits.

North Schuylkill breezed to a 16-1 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Emilee Slotcavage had two hits, three runs scored and two RBIs to lead the Spartans.

Maggie Pagotto had a single and a run scored for Lehighton, which was held to four hits.

The Spartans evened their record at 1-1 overall, while the Indians dropped to 1-3 on the season.

Northern Lehigh cruised to an 11-1 victory over Southern Lehigh in Colonial League play.

The Bulldogs (2-2) were paced by Kaitlyn Stock, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Cadence Peters added two hits and scored three times, while Jordyn Hemingway had a hit, three runs scored, and an RBI.

Emma Smith threw all six innings for Northern Lehigh, recording eight strikeouts and scattering just five hits.

Palmerton picked up a 5-0 win over Wilson.

Justin Sebelin and Riley Fallon each had singles victories for the Blue Bombers (1-2).

The Warriors (0-2) forfeited the No. 3 singles match and both doubles contests.

BOYS LACROSSE

Northwestern-Northampton

Austin Sosnovik’s five goals highlighted Northwestern’s 10-4 victory over Northampton.

Blaine Snyder added two goals and two assists for the Tigers, while Stone Sosnovik chipped in with a goal and three assists. Devon Hildebrand and Kaden Rausch added single scores.

Mengel led the Konkrete Kids with two goals and an assist.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Parkland-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley rolled to a 21-7 win over visiting Parkland.

Devon Bush had seven goals and two assists to lead the Bears. Olivia Iandoli (five goals, two assists); Rylee Rath (four goals, two assists; and Emily Butler (four goals) also had huge games for PV.
