Carbon County guilty pleas

Carbon County Judge Steven R. Serfass recently accepted guilty pleas from 11 people.

Janine April Sarau, 32, of Muncy, was charged with endangering the welfare of children; possession of a controlled substance; possession of a small amount of marijuana - personal use; and possession of drug paraphernalia on June 19, 2021.

She pleaded guilty to the marijuana and paraphernalia charges. The remaining charges were dropped.

Judge Serfass fined Sarau $300 on the marijuana charge, and sentenced her to 12 months of probation; pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and a LiveScan fee of $100; undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation; and perform 50 hours of community service.

Lucas A. Long, 36, of Lehighton, was charged with two felony counts of endangering welfare of children; driving under the influence; restraint systems - child booster seat; safety restraints - child under 2 years; (failing to) drive at a safe speed; careless driving; reckless driving; and disregarding traffic lanes on Sept. 9, 2022.

Long had been involved in a two-vehicle crash on Route 248 in Parryville. Two 1-year old girls who were also in the car were hurt. A passenger, Megan M. Eisenhard, was also hurt.

Long pleaded guilty to the restraint and DUI charges. The remaining charges were dropped.

On the DUI charge, Serfass sentenced Long to serve 48 hours to 60 months in the county prison; fined him $1,000; ordered him to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and a LiveScan fee of $100; undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation; have his license suspended for 18 months; complete the Alcohol Highway Safety program; and perform 100 hours of community service.

Serfass fined Long $75 for failing to have the child in a booster seat.

Paul Zuzo, 53, of Summit Hill, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on Aug. 7, 2022.

Zuzo pleaded guilty to the paraphernalia charge. The possession charge was dropped.

Judge Serfass sentenced Zuzo to serve 24 days to 12 months in the Carbon County Prison, with credit for 24 days served; to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and a LiveScan fee of $100; undergo a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation; and perform 50 hours of community service.

Jaquan Awong, 30, of Brooklyn, New York, was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude officer; default in required appearance; false identification to a law enforcement officer; driving while his operating privileges were suspended or revoked; reckless driving; careless driving; and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection on July 1, 2022.

He pleaded guilty to fleeing, driving while his license was suspended, reckless driving, and driving a vehicle without a valid inspection sticker.

The remaining charges were dropped.

Judge Serfass ordered Awong to serve 14 days to 18 months in jail, with credit for 14 days served; to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and a LiveScan fee of $100; and perform 75 hours of community service.

He fined Awong $200 each for reckless driving and driving while his license was suspended; $25 for the inspection sticker.

Wesley L Behler, 31, of Lehighton, was with two counts of theft by unlawful taking; and receiving stolen property on June 18, 2022.

Behler pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property. The theft charges were dropped.

Judge Serfass ordered him to serve 187 days to 24 months in jail, to be served at the same time as a sentence in Luzerne County, and with credit for 87 days served; to submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee; to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and a LiveScan fee of $100; and to perform 100 hours of community service.

Sarah Hope Green, 22, of Allentown, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on March 18, 2022.

She pleaded guilty to the paraphernalia charge. The possession charge was dropped.

Judge Serfass ordered her to serve 11 days to 12 months in the county prison, with credit for 11 days served; to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee; undergo a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation; and perform 50 hours of community service.

Alan Daniel Kovacs, 34, of Summit Hill, was charged by Fern Ridge State Trooper Craig T. Dadurka with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, second offense; careless driving; failing to use a safety belt; violating a hazard regulation; and driving without a license on Dec. 29, 2021.

Kovacs pleaded guilty to the DUI charge, and Judge Serfass ordered him to appear for sentencing at 9 a.m. April 27.

Jason D. Hettler, 44, of Lehighton, was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, second offense; driving while his license was suspended; and careless driving on April 6, 2022.

He pleaded guilty to the careless driving charge. The remaining charges were dropped.

Judge Serfass fined him $25 and to pay a LiveScan fee of $100.

Lawney L Strohl, 54, of Hazleton, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana on May 19, 2021.

He pleaded guilty to the paraphernalia charge. The marijuana charge was dropped.

Judge Serfass ordered Strohl to appear for sentencing at 9 a.m. April 27.

Tiffany Amber Milisits, 29, of Northampton, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on April 25, 2021.

She pleaded guilty to the paraphernalia charge. The possession charge was dropped.

Judge Serfass sentenced Milisits to 12 months of probation; to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and a LiveScan fee of $75; undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation; and perform 50 hours of community service.

Dietrick Ryan Hosier, 32, of Allentown, was charged with simple assault; terroristic threats; possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; disorderly conduct; and harassment on June 10, 2021.

He pleaded guilty to simple assault and possession of a controlled substance. The other charges were dropped.

On the assault charge, Judge Serfass ordered him to serve 12 to 24 months in jail, with 648 days credit; to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee and a LiveScan fee of $100; undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation; follow all mental health recommendations and take all mental health medications as prescribed; and to have no contact with the victim.

On the possession charge, Hosier was ordered to pay a LiveScan fee of $100; serve six to 12 months in jail, with 365 days credit, to be served at the same time as the assault sentence.
