State police at Lehighton

State police at Lehighton report investigating the following cases.

• A Dog Law incident at 5:18 p.m. March 16 along Par Drive in Polk Township.

Police said a 14-year-old boy from Palmerton was bitten by a dog after he went into the street to retrieve a basketball that rolled away from him.

Police said the neighbor’s dog ran from its residence and bit the boy in the ankle and chin.

Police said the dog owner, a 60-year-old man from Kunkletown, was cited under the Dog Law.

• An elder abuse case that was reported to have taken place at 474 Dam Road in Parryville involving an 85-year-old woman from Weatherly.

The abuse was reported to have happened between midnight Nov. 10, 2022, and midnight Jan. 1.

• A 34-year-old Lehighton man is facing charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after a traffic stop made at 7:10 p.m. March 21.

Police said they stopped the 2000 Subaru Forester for a Motor Vehicle Code violation. The man was also found to be in possession of drugs, police said.

• Stedmond Smith, 33, of Dillon, South Carolina, was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Nesquehoning, after a traffic stop at 6:59 p.m. Feb. 20 on Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township.

Police said he was operating a 2017 International Harvester that was stopped for vehicle code violations, after which time police discovered he was in possession of marijuana and carrying a firearm without a concealer carry permit.

• A man is facing theft by deception charges after a 77-year-old Jim Thorpe man was determined to be the victim of a phone scam.

Police said they were called at 3:10 p.m. March 2 to a property on Dogwood Drive in Penn Forest Township where the man revealed the alleged suspect attempted to deceive him out of thousands of dollars.

A 2022 Toyota Rav4 was reportedly involved in the incident.

• Jason Miller, 44, of Lansford, is facing terroristic threat charges after state police were summoned at 3:23 p.m. March 17 to East Bertsch Street in Lansford.

Police said a 54-year-old man from Tamaqua was assaulted by Miller and that Miller had a gun. Miller was taken into custody at the scene.

• State police said they were called to a property on East Abbott Street in Lansford to investigate the discovery of a vehicle involved in a crime in New Jersey.

Police said the vehicle had drugs and drug paraphernalia in it in plain view.

The vehicle was seized pending further investigation.
